Help available for former Prime Tanning staff
03/12/2009
US Representative Mike Michaud says former employees can apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance, which allows staff to take advantage of skills assessments, training and help with job searches.
This help has been offered because the labour department believes workers at the tannery lost their jobs because of competition from overseas. The Maine-based company produces wet blue and finished leather for the upholstery, footwear, apparel and leathergoods sectors. It has been restructuring over the last couple of years and some members of staff lost their jobs when some of its assets were acquired by Kansas-based packing company National Beef back in February.
