Bright future ahead for Chinese leather sector
China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) president Madame Zhang has said that the financial downturn has had a negative impact on the Chinese leather industry. However, she believes the sector will now experience 20 or 30 years of fast growth.
Madame Zhang says the country’s leather industry has made remarkable progress over the last 30 years and is now a major leather producer. She said China is the world’s largest leather apparel producer, accounting for 34% of global production, and that it is also one of the largest consumers of leather clothing.
The CLIA president predicts that the global economic situation and that of the world’s leather segment may take five or six years to fully recover, but that hope is in sight.
The comments were made at the China Leather Clothing Forum on November 26, organised by the CLIA and Yindak Leather Clothing. Topics included marketing and brand creation, technical elements, production, fashion and design.
