Turkish leather exports fall significantly
Leathergoods, leather garment and footwear exports continue to account for a significant proportion of Turkey’s total exports. However, the sector’s exports have fallen dramatically since the recession began.
Between January and October, leather garment exports fell 35% compared with the same period in 2008. Footwear exports were down 25%.
Total leather industry exports were $1.6 billion in 2008, and are anticipated to drop to $1.1 billion this year.
