Specialist chemical manufacturer Lanxess has announced that it will continue to fund lessons in Mandarin for pupils at a school near its corporate headquarters in Germany.

The company has supported the language lessons at the Landrat-Lucas Secondary School in Leverkusen since last year. With this help, the school is providing a native teacher and learning materials for 49 students, double the number that took part last year.

After a recent visit to the school, Lanxess human resources manager Zhengrong Liu commented: "The economic rise of China is a great opportunity and simultaneously a major challenge – for the country itself and also for the rest of the world. The significance of the Chinese language as a means of communication will continue to grow. This is why learning Chinese is a future-oriented qualification that goes far beyond economic interests."
