Specialist leather institute wins honour

The Olga Fiorini Institute, a not-for-profit training organisation specialising in leather, is one of 44 institutions in Lombardy to have entered 'centre of excellence' status in a new initiative run by the region.
President of the region of Lombardy, Roberto Formigioni, gave formal accreditation to all the institutions at a special ceremony in Milan on November 18.
Each organisation had to present a specific project as part of the assessment; the Olga Fiorini Institute, based in the province of Varese, put forward a project it has set up to train specialist leather technicians.
Sergio Scaltitti, head of training at the institute, said this recognition from the regional authorities would help the organisation run more highly specialised projects for leather sector technicians in future.
