China reports job losses from anti-dumping
18/11/2009
The China Leather Industry Association has claimed that anti-dumping duties on imports of leather shoes from China into the European Union have led to a 20% reduction in the volume of leather shoes leaving its ports for Europe and also to the loss of 20,000 jobs in the industry in China.
The organisation releaed the figures in the build-up to the European Commission's decision on November 19 on extending or scrapping the anti-dumping duties, which also apply to imports of leather shoes made in Vietnam. The EU has applied duties of 16.5% on leather footwear from China since 2006. The anti-dumping duty on imports from Vietnam is currently 10%.
