Tunisian government complains about polluting industries

Tunisia’s ministry for industry, energy and small and medium businesses has said that 20% of industrial companies in the North African country are causing pollution and that 70% of these businesses can be classed as “severely polluting”.

A senior official at the ministry, Abderrazak Rassaa, said that 3% of the companies involved were in the leather and footwear sectors, while 49% of polluting companies were in the food industry, 17% in the chemical sector and 13% in textiles and apparel.
