India: value of leather garment exports up by 24.5%

Indian leather exports in the first six months of the current financial year (April-September) had a value of $1.7 billion, compared to almost $2 billion in the same period last year, a decline of 13.2% in dollar terms.
Exports of finished leather fell by 25.3% to $295.1 million. The value of shipments of leather footwear dropped by 18.8% to $540.3 million from $665.7 million.
However, on more positive note, India recorded a growth of 24.5% in export of leather garments to $277.1 million from $222.57 million in the same period in 2008.
