Fall in trade between Brazil and Italy

09/11/2009

Italy’s deputy-minister for economic development, Aldolfo Urso, has confirmed figures for bilateral trade between his country and Brazil.

In 2008, the value of trade between the two countries reached EUR 7.2 billion, with Brazilian exports ( minerals, agricultural products and leather are among the most important product sectors) to Italy taking a EUR 3.8 billion share.

However, Mr Urso said that figures for the first half of 2009 show a drop of almost 60% because of the global economic downturn.

Italian companies invested EUR 245 million in Brazil last year and Mr Urso said he was confident this investment figure would reach EUR 500 million by the end of 2010.
