New tannery up and running

Three manufacturing co-operatives in the west of Paraguay are celebrating the success of a new tannery, even before completing construction work on the project.

The companies involved, Chortitzer Komitee, Neuland and Ferhein, have invested an initial sum of $5 million in the tannery in Villa Hayes, in the Paraguayan part of the Chaco region. Using new machinery from Italy and Brazil, the company is producing wet blue from local hides.

In a recent conversation with local media, managing director, Fernando Kelher, said the joint-venture operation had already started production and was shipping wet blue to overseas tanneries serving an impressive list of clients, including BMW and adidas.
