Hope in sight for China’s leather sector

The China Taiwanese Tannery Sodality held a meeting in mid September in Dongguan city. Reports indicate that 94 people attended this meeting, which was hosted by Sun Lots Tannery, and many attended the formal dinner party that followed.

Speaking at the event, the association’s chairman, Yang Jen, said he expected and encouraged members to turn the crisis into new opportunities. He predicted that the sector would start to recover during the fourth quarter.

A number of presentations were given during the meeting. Among others, vice chairman, Richard Chi, talked about the number six contract, while Li Hui Chin gave a report on the World Leather Industry Cooperation and Development Forum. Liu Xu, president of Zhaofu Tannery, spoke about clean leather production, while general manager of Tong Hong Tannery, Shinny Cheng, talked about developments in the Taiwanese leather industry. Sam Chou, secretary-general of the Taiwanese International Leather Association, spoke about the association’s activities.

Director of Huangcheng Tannery, which will host the next meeting in 2010, Lai Qingquan, closed the meeting.
