Packed programme at IULTCS Congress in Beijing
More than 80 visual presentations and 43 oral presentations were given at the 30th IULTCS Congress in Beijing (October 11-14). Around 300 leather technologists and scientists attended the event, of which approximately 80 were from overseas.
The presentations focused on fundamental research, clean technology, environmental protection and recycling, and innovative technologies, as well as on typical leather industry topics such as quality standards, new leather chemicals and leathergoods design.
President of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), which organised the event, Madame Zhang, gave an overview of the current situation of China’s leather industry and the continued need for technological and scientific developments. She stressed the development of tannery clusters as the way to proceed in the next few years.
The day after the congress, a number of participants visited the Xinji tannery cluster, around 300 km south-east of Beijing. They visited a shoe factory, a tannery and a wastewater treatment plant during the trip.
The 31st IULTCS Congress will be held September 28-30 2011 in Valencia, Spain.
