Hainan tanneries to close

28/10/2009

According to reports, 65 companies in Hainan City, China, have received ‘yellow card’ warnings from the local environmental protection authority. A further 38 firms are believed to have received ‘red card’ warnings. If they fail inspection tests at the end of the year, they will be forced to close.

It is thought the leather industry’s environmental authority department plans to close 16 firms, while 38 have already been trying to improve their processes. Three of these, however, have been told to freeze production as they have reportedly failed to meet environmental standards.
