The Delhi International Leather Fair kicked off today when Tejendra Khanna, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, officially inaugurated the event. “It gives me very great pleasure to be at the fair,” he said, adding that it had “grown from strength to strength” since it launched 17 years ago. “In the global arena we now have to show the highest commitment to business ethics and value for money,” he said. “If there is quality and value, exports will continue to grow.”

He added: “I’m sure the fair will be a great success for decades to come.”

In the afternoon, former president of the Footwear Retailers and Distributors Association (FRDA), Peter Mangione, spoke about the US and global footwear market during a seminar. This was followed by a talk by a presentation from the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) entitled ‘New technology developed for zero wastage discharge in tanneries’.

The fair runs until October 25.
