Dystar makes further progress

Having announced last week that it will continue to supply its customers despite having filed for insolvency on September 28 (see leatherbiz 15.10.09), Dystar has now revealed it is making further progress.

In addition to restarting production at its facility in Geretsried, Bavaria, on October 12, the company has also announced that small-scale production has restarted at its Frankfurt am Main unit. And the firm is hoping similar action will take place at another two locations, as Dr Stephan Laubereau, preliminary insolvency administrator, explains. “We are in negotiations with the location operators in Leverkusen and Brunsbüttel to clarify the financing of the production,” he says.

The company reopened its Ludwigshafen plant on October 16 but had to temporarily shut down production again. It announced on October 20 that, having overcome a temporary hiccup, production is under way there again now.

“In fact this message is good news” says Dr Laubereau. “However I would like to point out that decisive factors for a long-lasting solution still have to be clarified.”
