During a visit to agricultural, industrial and commercial fair Efapi, Italian delegates bought 3,000 calves. The fair ran October 9-18 in Ponta Grossa, Brazil.

Accompanied by mayor John Rodriguez and general coordinator of Efapi, Americo Nascimento Junior, entrepreneurs Fúlvio Fortunati, president of the Union of Importers and Exporters of meat from southern Italy (Uniceb), Carlo Saverio Siciliani (Bari) and Gianluigi Sgarbi (Monte Carlo) signed an agreement to buy the calves.

The first shipment is expected in early 2010 through the port of Florianopolis, on the Santa Catarina coast, and the number could rise to 5,000 according to the agreement. The calves will be provided by a group of 360 to 400 farmers in the Santa Catarina area. Mr Rodriguez said these calf sales will directly benefit farmers there, helping to increase income for rural families.
