Australian beef and veal production rose 6% year-on-year in August driven by an increase in the slaughter of adult cattle in Queensland.

Production totalled 186,256 tonnes in August with figures in Queensland up 17% compared with August 2008. This offset declines in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania.

According to reports, bad weather in southern Queensland during the month contributed to a 16% increase in total adult cattle slaughter.
