Reports say hide trading group has gone into receivership

Unconfirmed industry reports suggest that London-based East Hides Group may have gone into receivership. After a number of calls to the company’s head office from World Leather magazine on October 9, we were told that no one would be available for comment for the next two weeks.

Established in 1992, the group built up a network of sales offices, hide and skin collection warehouses, tanneries and distribution operations in many parts of the world. At the company's peak, it was buying and selling hides and skins in more than 40 countries.

Crest Leather, an associated company that runs two tanneries, in Italy and Brazil, producing high-end upholstery leather, has told us that, no matter what happens at East Hides, it will remain unaffected.
