Higher meat exports from Argentina

Argentinean exports of meat and meat products totalled 51,586 tons in August, up 35% compared with August 2008, according to the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa).

The main export destinations for fresh cuts were
Russia (13,484 tons), Chile (5996 tons) and Israel
(4027 tons).
During the first nine months of 2009, total exports of meat products from
Argentina were 363,547 tonnes compared with 230,675 tonnes in the same period in 2008.

In the period January to July, beef consumption in Argentina was 70.3 pounds per capita per year against the annual average of 68.7 pounds in 2008, according to the country’s Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA).
