Sales down 20% at Natuzzi

Italy-based leather-upholstered furniture company Natuzzi SpA has posted lower sales for the second quarter and the first six months of 2009.

Net sales during the second quarter fell 20.8% to EUR133.6 million compared with EUR168.8 million during the same quarter last year. According to the company, the decline was primarily caused by the general economic downturn, particularly in the US. However, second quarter sales rose 20.1% compared with the first quarter, totalling EUR111.3 million.

For the first six months, net sales were EUR244.9 million, down 28.3% compared with EUR341.6 million during the first six months of 2008. Gross profit for the period totalled EUR78.9 million, down 14.5% compared with the same period of 2008.
