Latest developments from Silvateam
30/09/2009
Provider of vegetable extracts and specialty chemicals for the leather industry Silvateam will use the Tanning Tech exhibition in Bologna (October 13–15) to present a new range of products for tanning and retanning.
Included in the range is Ritan Plus, a specially modified vegetable compound that can be used at the tanning stage, alone or with other tanning agents, as well as at the retanning stage of full- or semi-vegetable articles for which “excellent fullness, roundness and burnishing properties” are required.
Blancotan BFS is a dihydroxy-diphenyl-sulfone syntan used during retannage to obtain leathers with softness and fullness, a tight grain and a high level of light and heat fastnesses. Blancotan BR liquid, on the other hand, is a dihydroxy-diphenyl-sulfone condensation based product especially developed to give leather “impressive fullness and roundness”, Silvateam says, thanks to its high concentration of tannins. High levels of light and heat fastnesses make this liquid product suitable for the production of leathers for automotive, white leathers and leathers dyed to pastel shades.
Another Blancotan product, the SG liquid, is a dihydroxy-diphenyl-sulfone condensation based product with characteristics very similar to those of Blancotan BR liquid, but with higher and improved dispersion properties.
There is also a new fatliquor concept, Kurtalicker 805, which is fully synthetic and free from fish oil. It gives leathers good softness and fullness. It also shows high heat and light fastness properties compared with average fish oil-based products that are on the market, Silvateam claims. Kurtalicker 902, meanwhile, is a special fatliquor that consists of natural and synthetic sulfited oils with excellent penetrating characteristics and a soft pleasant touch. It can be used in any kind of chrome, vegetable or mixed tanned leathers.
Kurtaminlicker 1155 is a fatliquor based on natural phosphated lipids and synthetic compounds that gives leather a low specific weight as well as good softness. It is especially suitable for making soft nappa for garment and glove leather.
Other products Silvateam will have on show in Bologna include Sintoil 88, universal sulfated fatliquor used as a base product in the production of any kind of chrome or vegetable tanned leathers, imparting good softness without affecting the dyeing process, and Keusol LA, a fatliquor that consists of lanolin and synthetic oils with excellent softening and filling properties to give leather a slightly greasy touch. Keusol LA is used in highly vegetable retanned leathers; it produces good shininess when polished and increases the grain resistance. On suede articles, it improves the writing effect and the shininess of the colours.
Meanwhile, Prodotto 1585 is a sulfated fatliquor made with natural and synthetic oils in combination with emulsified waxes that has been especially developed to obtain an impressive burnishing effect during the wet-end process. Kurtalicker Q2 is a fatliquor that consists of sulfited marine oil, which imparts good softness and a medium light fastness to leathers. Moreover, thanks to the special oxidation and sulfitation process used, Kurtalicker Q2 does not have the unpleasant smell that sometimes occurs with similar oils.
Finally, Kurtalicker 60 and Kurtalicker 815 will also be part of the new range. The first of these is an oxidised and sulfited vegetable oil fatliquor, which allows the development of leathers with good softness and low specific weight. These properties make it suitable for the production of leather for garments and gloves without imparting unpleasant odours. Kurtalicker 815 is a special fatliquor that combines natural and synthetic sulfited oils and shows excellent penetrating characteristics. It can be used in any kind of chrome, vegetable or mixed tanned leathers, where it gives high levels of softness and a pleasant touch to the leather.
