The number of overseas visitors attending Furniture China 2009 in Shanghai in mid-September increased by 9.2% compared to the 2008 event.

The total number of visitors from outside China was 14,852, with 42% from other Asian countries, 26% from Europe and 14% from North America.

Exhibitors reported receiving huge buying interest at the week-long event. The organisers explained that, as furniture inventories had run low in North America, Europe and other developed markets, Furniture China presented a timely opportunity to source quality products and replenish stocks for the coming 2010 season, and to brace for what they called a “projected surge in post-recessionary demand”.

International exhibitors also reported strong Chinese demand for medium-to-high end overseas-made furniture.

The event attracted a total of 2,300 exhibitors,
