Naomi Campbell puts Birkin bag up for charity sale
15/09/2009
Top model Naomi Campbell paid a whistle-stop visit to Paris’s iconic Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré on September 15 to have fashion house Hermès engrave her initials on a ‘Birkin’ bag in pale green crocodile leather that she bought some years ago.
Ms Campbell’s intention is to put the bag up for auction in November, with the proceeds going to a charity called the White Ribbon Alliance. The charity works to save the lives of pregnant women and newborn babies around the world.
The most prominent charity sale of a celebrity handbag so far occurred in 2007 when Jane Birkin herself auctioned off her own ‘Birkin’ bag, raising EUR 74,000 for the International Federation of Human Rights, making it the most expensive handbag in history.
