Designer launches washable leather trousers
14/09/2009
Paris-based designer Jean-Claude Jitrois has launched a new design of leather trousers, with the added benefit that wearers will be able to wash them in an ordinary domestic washing machine and iron them with an ordinary domestic iron.
Mr Jitrois has insisted that the trousers will wash well at cold-temperature settings on an ordinary machine, and that consumers will have no trouble ironing them on the silk setting of their irons and without steam.
A specialist in using leather in high-end ready-to-wear applications, the designer came to prominence in the 1990s when he designed a five-pocket style of jeans in stretch leather. The new leather trousers will go on sale across France and in select overseas markets at a price of around EUR 1,400 per pair.
