Indian Leather exports fall

Indian leather exports during the first four months of the current financial year (April-July) had a value of just over $1 billion, against the previous year’s performance of $ 1.3 billion, a fall of 19%.

Exports of finished leather fell by 31% to $191.6 million. The decline in the value of leather footwear was almost 25%, falling to $335.3 million from $446.7 million for the first four months of the previous financial year. Exports of leathergoods fell too, by 15.5% to $253 million from almost $300 million.

On a brighter note, exports of leather garments showed growth of 24.3% and had a value of $165.5 million.
