Leather to lure gold-class passengers to Dubai metro

A new metro system in Dubai opened for business on September 9, with the system stretching across 52 kilometres around the city. It has take four years to plan and build, at a cost of $7.6 billion.

The authorities in the Emirate forecast that the network will carry 200 million passenger journeys each year, reducing congestion by up to 17% on the roads.

One of the features that they hope will encourage commuters to give up their cars is luxury leather upholstery in the seating accommodation in Golden Class, the top of three classes of carriage in each train.
