Chinese leathergoods exports down

In the first half of 2009, China exported leather and leathergoods worth $18.2 billion, down 7% compared with the same period last year. Imports were down 34.8% to $2 billion.
Finished leather exports fell 45.9% in volume and 62.7% in value. Leather shoe exports dropped 24.8% in volume and 14.7% in value. Leather shoe imports fell 9.9% to $190 million.
Leather garment exports dropped 29.9% to $260 million; however imports of leather garments grew 17.4% compared with the six-month period last year.
