MLA predicts rapid rise in meat exports

26/08/2009

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), which represents the country’s red meat industry, expects meat exports to the UAE and the gulf to rise by up to 15% during the month of Ramadan.

It claims Australian meat is particularly popular in these countries because they guarantee to meet halal requirements.

The UAE is Australia’s second largest export destination for lamb, and exports of beef to the Middle East have also grown rapidly, from 6,000 tonnes in 2002 to 13,000 tonnes in 2008.
