New shoe and bag trends at GDS

24/08/2009

According to the organisers of GDS, lightness, softness and a natural feel will be the main feature of materials used in bag and shoe collections for spring-summer 2010.

It is expecting exhibitors at the show, which runs September 11-13 in Düsseldorf, Germany, to use soft kidskin plus lamb and goatskin, with a special emphasis on nubuck and suede. Leather will come washed, roughened up or with a patina and will have a very casual, authentic look. Perforations and latticework will provide ventilation for hot days. Canvas and linen will be used in combination with leather. Influences from foreign exotic cultures are visible in python and lizard embossing. Matt-shine effects will be a key style.

Use of colour will be significantly subtler, with mid-tones and tone-on-tone graduations gaining ground. Pastel tones have lost their sweet touch and look almost transparent, as if covered by a milky veil. Neutral beiges and greys are supplemented by faded, mid-blue and green nuances. However, there will be exotic touches with papaya, turquoise, kiwi and fuchsia shades as well as brushed gold and silver coming into play.
