Paraguayan leather attracts Korean interest

21/08/2009

According to reports, Paraguay is experiencing more interest in its leather from Korea.

The country’s meat and leather investment and export association, REDIEX, claims 25 Korean delegates recently visited the country to discuss this.

One businessman, in particular, has said he is interested in buying wet blue or semi-finished leather on a large scale. It is thought the leather will be finished in Korea and used to make shoes and other leathergoods to cater for Korean tastes.

Paraguay’s leather sector is hoping such opportunities will help it deal with the decline in demand, which started last year. Reports indicate that leather exports in 2007 totalled $95 million compared with just $65 million in 2008.
