Brazil’s leather export woes continue
14/08/2009
New figures from the the Centre of Brazilian Tanning Industries (CICB) show that exports of hides and leather from Brazil in the first seven months of 2009 had a value of $588.6 million, a fall of 52% compared to the same period in 2008.
CICB cited familiar reasons for the drop: the global economic downturn, high taxes, excessive bureaucracy, poor infrastructure and, most of all, lack of access to capital for businesses in the sector.
