Mixed results at Lanxess

13/08/2009

German chemicals firm Lanxess has posted a 30% decline in sales for the second quarter of 2009. Sales for the period totalled EUR 1.24 billion. However, sales rose 17% compared with the first quarter.

Net income was positive at EUR 17 million after being negative for two consecutive quarters.

“Lanxess has achieved a solid result in the second quarter in view of the challenging environment for the chemical industry,” said Axel Heitmann, chairman of the board.

Sales in the performance chemicals segment, which include the specialty chemical business units, rose 14% to EUR 385 million during the second quarter. The increase has been attributed to good performances from the inorganic pigments, leather, and material protection products business units despite ongoing difficult conditions in the automobile and construction industries.
