Leathergoods exports slide in Pakistan

10/08/2009

According to the Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA), the country’s leathergoods exports fell 30% during the 2008-09 financial year.

The PTA feels the industry is not receiving enough government support, particularly compared with India, where leather exports reportedly rose 27% during the first six months of 2009.

Chairman, Agha Saiddain, believes around 500,000 jobs could be lost unless the government intervenes in a serious way.
