New leather consultants to be trained

10/08/2009

India’s Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) are to train new consultants who will help support struggling leather manufacturers in Kanpur.

According to reports, a number of graduates will analyse the region’s market position and will look at the problems faced by the leather industry. They will be given a year’s training by experienced consultants, funded by the Kanpur Productivity Council.

Kanpur is an important leathergoods centre but has been hit hard by the economic slowdown. Some companies have already closed down but it is hoped the new programme will help prevent further closures. The graduates will receive training on general topics such as investment as well as on leather-specific issues.
