Positive results at Tandy Leather
Tandy Leather Factory has posted a 3% sales increase for July. Sales totalled $4.3 million compared with July 2008 sales of $4.2 million.
Retail Leathercraft sales rose 9% in July to $2.2 million compared with $2 million in the same month last year. The three stores opened since July 2008 added sales of $67,000. Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2 million for July, down 4% from July 2008 sales of $2.1 million.
Year-to-date total sales fell 1% to $30.9 million from $31.4 million during the same period last year. Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft were $15.4 million, a 6% increase over sales of $14.5 million for the same period of 2008.
Year-to-date Wholesale Leathercraft sales were $14.4 million compared with $16 million in 2008, down 10%.
Chief executive officer and president, Jon Thompson, said: “So far, July’s sales gain in retail is the highest of the year, and the decline in wholesale is the smallest, so that is positive. However, I do not think that the smaller loss in wholesale is an indication of an economic turnaround. While we are working hard to maintain sales in both retail and wholesale, I do not expect drastically different results for the remainder of the year.”
