Uruguay ready for the new EU quota

04/08/2009

The National Meat Institute of Uruguay (INAC) sent certification to the European Union (EU) last week so that it is able to take advantage of the additional high-quality meat quotas the EU recently introduced. The EU has raised the quota by 20,000 tonnes in the first year and by 45,000 in three years’ time.

Meat exports must be from animals of less than 30 months of age and in the last 100 days before slaughter. INAC will be responsible for ensuring these conditions are met.

The institute’s president, Luis Alfredo Fratta, believes that the effect of this change may be felt within 15 to 20 days.
