Action needed to save Foshan tanneries

03/08/2009

According to reports, around 300 businesses, including a number of tanneries were forced to close last year in Foshan city, China, because of high pollution levels.

Plans to improve pollution control and energy usage are being implemented—five of the anticipated 24 wastewater treatment plants have been built—in an attempt to prevent further closures. However, around 100 more companies are expected to close this year.

Industries affected by the closures include leather, ceramics, glass, printing and dyeing.
