Clariant to show wide range of products at ACLE

Specialist chemical supplier Clariant will be exhibiting at stand D06B Hall W2 at the 2009 All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai from September 2-4.
The company promises that visitors will be inspired by a new collection of leathers, based on the spring-summer 2010 and autumn-winter 2010-11 colour and fashion trends.
The collection covers most types of leathers, including material for shoe uppers, handbags, garments, furniture upholstery and so on. "Our theme is to re-inforce the natural beauty of leather with new looks and higher performance levels that will inspire the mind and excite the eye," the company has said.
Clariant will show highlights from wet end to finishing, with special emphasis on its new global shoe concept offering solutions both to classic and high fashion shoe uppers.
Highlights from the wet end will include chrome-free leather, using the company's Granofin FCC Liquid pretanning system with the retanning agents Tanicor SCU Liquid and Tanicor RS-31 Liquid. Chrome-save systems, using specialty tanning auxiliaries Feliderm CS Liquid and Feliderm DP Liquid, will also be on display. There will also be what Clariant refers to as "intelligent polymer retanning systems for beautiful leathers that surpass today’s restricted substance requirements".
Visitors will also be able to see the even softness, tightness and grain pattern produced by polymer retanning agents Tergotan PMB Liquid and Tergotan TSP Liquid, as well as Tergotan PO-60 Liquid, a new specialty retanning polymer that gives "outstanding retanning and fatliquoring properties, allowing the highest standards in phenol and formaldehyde free levels", Clariant claims.
New and innovative fatliquors for today’s (and tomorrow’s) leathers will also be on view at ACLE, including Derminol DDS Paste and Derminol PUA Paste, the new Clariant solution for the production of vegetable type and pull-up leathers.
Lastly, Clariant has urged visitors to ACLE to put time aside to look at its new Melioderm dyestuffs, which, it claims, will give "superior dyeing properties for all kinds of leathers, outstanding fastness levels, complete colour spectrum, excellent dyeing yield, highly economical, for universal use and brilliant shades".
The innovations on view from the finishing side will include upgrading techniques for higher cutting yields, giving added value with a natural look, using Melio Aquabase and Melio Ground systems.
Melio Aquabase M-88 is a product with high filling substances used to cover deep defects, in order to make them invisible after finishing. It is applied by hand with a spatula. The application has a special composition that makes it easy to put on without drying too fast or creating crumps; buffing without smearing is also easy to achieve, Clariant says. It is suitable for a wide range of leathers, including automotive, shoe upper and upholstery leathers.
Melio Aquabase RN-03 and Melio Aquabase RN-04 are strong filling products especially developed for the reverse roller coater application. Both products are used to fill up deep crust defects to make them invisible after finishing. Melio Aquabase RN-03 has the lower, Melio Aquabase RN-04 the higher viscosity. Both products can be mixed easily to adjust the viscosity to achieve the best results possible. These two products can be used for various leathers, for example car upholstery, furniture, shoe upper (e.g. brush-off and college type), splits, and so on.
Melio Mattpaste E is an economical base coat filler that has been developed to give a high matting effect. It will also give high light fastness and heat fastness properties to correctly formulated basecoats. Leathers finished with Melio Mattpaste E show considerable improvement to the coverage and smoothness of base coats. Melio Mattpaste E reduces stickiness when plating and piling. Melio Mattpaste E can be used in all kinds of finishing including automotive leathers.
Aqualen Top LN.A is Clariant’s new ecological top coat product for aqueous patent leather imitation. It is developed to meet highest requirements of both gloss level and physicals. Aqualen Top LN.A is an aqueous, modified, aliphatic polyurethane dispersion. Leathers finished with Aqualen Top LN.A are distinguished by their brilliance and depth of gloss. Due to market demands Aqualen Top LN.A was developed to allow application by spraying techniques as well as by roller coater.
A new development especially for soft leathers such as furniture leather or shoe upper leather nappas is Clariant's new top coat system based on Aqualen Top DC-2050.A (dull) and Aqualen Top GC-2051.A (gloss). Both products can be mixed in any ratio to adjust the desired level of gloss or dullness. Common for both products and so for the whole system is the elegant optic as a result of the softness, high resistance to both rubbing and flexing, no hardening even after a long period of time, a very natural appearance and pleasant feel.
Neosan 2000 is described as a pioneering casein-free aqueous pigment dispersion system that offers new customised solutions. It is Arizona proofed for heat and light fastness as well as hot light ageing properties. The company believes Neosan 2000 will offer "a perfect match" with its new Pelcroma Computer Color Matching solution.
Melio Wax PO-408 is a very effective pull-up wax for conventional and water-resistant pull-up leathers. Melio Wax PO-408 combines a strong and level pull-up effect with a rich and pleasant feel and very high Maeser results.
Supronil HK dyes, a complete range of colours for today’s fashion demands, will also be on display.
Among other innovative additives is Melio WF-5221, a feel modifier that eliminates squeaking in topcoats with an elegant warm, silky feel that gives life to a wide range of leathers. Then there is Melio WF-5238, developed specially to give a smooth, slippery feel. This high concentrated silicone improves the taber properties of aqueous topcoats, as well as giving a great feel to leathers.
Finally, Clariant describes Melio WF-5243 as "an exciting product" that supports a natural and pleasant handle for a wet touch. Melio WF-5243 not only supports the latest trends in feels but also improves the wet physicals of the finished leather.
