Airline wins Emmy award for leather seats commercial

Denver-based Frontier Airlines has won a regional Emmy Award (the television equivalent of the Oscars) for a light-hearted advertisement it ran last year to announce the introduction of all-leather seating on its fleet of aircraft.
The 15-year-old company has a fleet of 51 Airbus jets, plus ten Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
A distinctive feature of Frontier planes is that the tails are painted with wildlife images and the company has, for a long time, incorporated these “spokesanimals” into its advertising campaigns. The commercial announcing the new leather seats was no different. Two of the main characters, Larry the Lynx and Jack the Rabbit, have a discussion about the new upholstery. Jack asks where leather comes from, and the lynx tells him. The rabbit responds by saying that this explains why Frontier has no images of cows on the tails of its planes. “It would be kind of creepy,” Larry says, before the two characters agree to go for a burger.
“Frontier’s spokesanimals are such a significant part of this airline,” said director of advertising, Diane Willmann. “We couldn’t be happier to have received this award, recognising their importance to our brand and their ability to share news with our customers in an engaging and entertaining way.”
