According to reports, Bangladesh’s high court has ruled that several tanneries in the Hazaribagh area in Dhaka city are to close.

The decision to close the tanneries is related to environmental factors as complaints have been made regarding the amount of pollution created by the tanneries in question.

The sites will close temporarily in February 2010 and, unless new equipment that will reduce the amount of pollution created is installed by June 2010, they will be closed permanently the following month. This equipment will be monitored by the government’s environment department.
