The authorities in Tuscany have reported sharp declines in the performance of manufacturing companies in the region for the first quarter of 2009.

Statistics specific to the leather sector show a drop in production of 27% compared to the last quarter of 2008. The fashion sector in general, the main market for Tuscany’s leather and leathergoods producers, is down, with footwear showing a decline of 20.7%, textiles a drop of 19% and apparel one of 15.1%.
