White Nile state seeks agricultural investment

18/06/2009

Sudan's White Nile state is hoping to secure investment from Malaysia for its agriculture industry and related sectors.

According to state governor Mohamed Noorallah, there are potential investment opportunities for meat and leather production, fishing and livestock, among others. While there is huge potential for these sectors, the state lacks the financial resources to reap the full benefits.

The state is one of 26 in Sudan and covers an area of around 40,000 km2. The state has a vast livestock supply, totalling more than 10 million head of cows, sheep, goats and camels, according to reports. This accounts for 14% of Sudan’s livestock population.
