Double-digit declines for Indian leather sector

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s quick estimates of industrial production for April, India’s leather and leather and fur goods industries reported a decline of 12.4% compared with the same month in 2008. The sector showed the second highest rate of decline of the six market segments that registered negative growth.

Eleven of the 17 segments included in the estimated figures showed year-on-year growth, with the highest level of growth at 31.4%. 

The general index is at 270.1, 1.4% higher than in April 2008.
