Italy and Nigeria work together

Reports indicate that Italy and Nigeria are to work more closely together in order to promote business relationships between manufacturers in the two countries and to increase bilateral trade.

Bilateral trade in 2008 totalled around EUR 1.9 billion. Italian exports to Nigeria totalled EUR 762.4 million and mainly comprised machinery and equipment, iron and steel, refined petroleum products, vehicles, metal products, petroleum, foodstuffs and manufactured goods.

Nigerian exports to
Italy in 2008 totalled EUR 1.1 and largely consisted of hides, skins and fur, crude oil, gas and related products, and plastics, wood and spices.

During the year, Italian imports from Nigeria rose 25% while its exports to the country fell by around 9%.

There are currently 112 Italian companies operating in the African country.
