Lectra leather cutter offers “maximum savings”

12/06/2009

According to technology solutions provider Lectra, its newly launched CLS Auto leather cutter could help manufacturers save time and money. The new cutter is specifically designed to support automotive manufacturers, who have been particularly badly affected by the economic crisis.

Lectra believes it is becoming more and more important for companies to deploy flexible production models adapted to shorter runs, and these require solutions specific to each material. For leather seats and interiors, CLS Auto helps manufacturers overcome new challenges related to productivity, competitiveness and flexibility.

The solution operates non-stop on a conveyor, managing each stage of the production process: loading of pre-marked hides, recognition of hide flaws by scanner, automatic contour detection, calculation of the actual hide surface, automatic nesting of pattern pieces taking flawed zones into account, cutting, and sorting of pieces for offloading.

Its HideScan recognition software controls a high-resolution scanner that automatically identifies hide flaws and contours. Its AutoNest software then automatically nests pattern pieces, offering material savings of between 5% and 10% compared with dye-cutting systems. Finally, Offload, which guides operators offloading combinations of several cut orders, can generate additional material savings of between 2% and 5%.

“CLS Auto is the perfect solution in the current macroeconomic climate, where it is more important than ever for companies to implement value-added technologies and solutions that enable them to boost their competitiveness and sustain their sales strategy," said Daniel Harari, Lectra CEO.
