Skillfast-UK launches new business plan
Skillfast-UK, the state-sponsored Sector Skills Council covering the leathergoods industry, has launched "C-Change", a new business plan which it hopes will help to dramatically improve the skills system over the next year.
The business plan sets out how the council will improve practical learning in schools, colleges and universities, and puts forward a schedule of activities to promote career choices in the industry. For the leathergoods sector, the plan will deliver three new technical training centres as well as access to a £24.5 million ($40.4 million) investment fund for skills development.
Linda Florance, chief executive of Skillfast-UK, said: "UK employers pay their taxes to fund an education and training system that, on the whole, does not provide the skills which companies in this sector need. Last year, more than 2,000 employers contributed to our new strategy to tackle this issue. Now the launch of our C-Change business plan will see us start to deliver real change at grass-roots level."
She added: "Feedback from employers who have seen the plan has been very positive, but we want more companies to get involved with us to drive these changes through."
