Belgian leather label closes

04/06/2009

According to reports, Veronique Branquinho’s eponymous label has become the latest casualty of the global economic downturn.

The label has been successful since its launch 11 years ago, but the Belgian designer has been struggling as a result of lower wholesale revenues. Her company James NV is reportedly going into liquidation and remaining stock will be sold at its only outlet in Antwerp.

However, Ms Branquinho’s designing days are far from over. She was recently appointed artistic director at Belgium-based leathergoods firm Delvaux. She is also a professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
