Romanian leather production falls sharply

According to Romania’s statistics bureau, leather production in the country plummeted during the first quarter of 2009.
While total industrial output fell 13%, the production of leather and leathergoods—including shoes, bags and saddlery items—fell 23.7% during the quarter.
Industrial output has fallen since the fourth quarter of 2008 and further declines are expected during the second quarter.
