Similarly, Pakistan’s total production of leather for the first nine months of the current financial year, July-March 2008-09, stood at 14.6 million square-metres, down from 15.8 million during the same period last financial year.

But on a more positive note, the production of footwear recorded a growth of 20.9% in March, producing 2.6 million pairs in March 2009 compared to 2.1 million pairs in the same month last year. The production of sole leather also showed a upward trend of 87.5% to 15 tonnes in March 2009 compared to 8 tonnes in March 2008.
