Dundee student dumfounded by top model's order

Fashion model Erin O'Connor, who has featured in campaigns for Chanel, Versace, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Armani, and Jean-Paul Gaultier, has left a Scottish design student astounded by placing an order for a leather jacket she had prepared for a university fashion show.

Ms O'Connor presided at the opening of the 2009 Degree Show for design students at the University of Dundee in mid-May. At the end of the catwalk show, the model asked to try on one of the items that had been on display, a jacket in white leather, created by graduate student Hayley Scanlan.

She told the student designer that she loved the jacket and wanted to be the first person to place an order for it. She has arranged to email her exact measurements to allow Ms Scanlan to make a tailor-made version.

Ms O'Connor told the BBC: "When I saw that jacket I thought, 'I have to have that first.'"

Afterwards, Hayley Scanlan commented: "I'm just absolutely blown away. Someone said to me right after the show finished that Erin wanted to try my jacket on, and I couldn't believe it. But next thing she was trying it on and saying she definitely wanted one. Its absolutely fantastic."
